Do not use butane, propane, alcohol, gasoline, or pressurised gas. Petrol wick lighters are designed for lighter fluid made specifically for that category.
Step 1: Work away from flame
Refill the lighter in a well-ventilated area, away from candles, stoves, cigarettes, sparks, or any open flame. Lighter fluid is highly flammable, and vapour can ignite more easily than people expect.
Step 2: Open the filling area
Open the lighter according to its care instructions. On many petrol lighters, the absorbent filling material sits inside the body. Add fluid slowly so it absorbs evenly.
Step 3: Add fluid slowly
Tilt the lighter fluid bottle and add a small amount at a time. Stop before the filling material looks flooded.
Step 4: Wipe away excess fluid
